Wood and woodworking are firmly grounded in our family and have accompanied me all my life. As a child, I spent a lot of time in my grandfather’s workshop where he was making various wooden items. There, I was gaining my first experiences, getting to know wood processing, helping to sand and compose wooden items. Many items were handmade and thus every pair of hands, even a child’s, was welcome. My grandfather was very inventive, full of ideas and creativity. To save time and means, he even invented some of his very own machines. In those early times, wood with its softness and warmth became my friend … Soon, I started making my own wooden toys and tools for playing with my friends. As a teenager, I gained further experiences in the organ workshop in Hoče at Maribor that was led by my father Brane for many years. I learned how useful wood is for making musical instruments, how alive it is as a material … For every musical instrument, many facts have to be taken into consideration – from growth of a tree to wood handling and final production. When choosing my profession, I had no doubts. I have always known I am going to work with wood. After high school, I continued my studies at Biotechnical Faculty in Ljubljana and finished it with a Bachelor’s Degree in Wood Science and Technology. I started my own craft and became passionate about making raised garden beds which has been my field already for seven years. In the future, I would like to follow my grandfather’s footsteps and develop some other wooden items interesting for the market.
