“Ribnica woodenware”
The municipal council of Sodražica Municipality adopted the regulations of the geographical indication “Ribnica woodenware” on 4 August 2005. The right to the indication can be carried by man or machine-made wooden items that have formed in a longer period of time in the area of the municipalities Ribnica, Sodražica, Loški Potok, Kočevje, Dobrepolje, Velike Lašče and Bloke (area of “Ribnica woodenware”).
Ribnica woodenware is made of fir, spruce, larch, pine, beech, oak, hornbeam, elm, wild cherry, pear, maple, willow, small-leaved lime and large-leaved lime, ash, hazel, dogwood, and other indigenous species. In smaller percentage, other materials can be present (for example metal as connective or reinforcing element).
Wooden items of Ribnica woodenware are arranged into basic branches of Ribnica woodenware: side-rim making, bottom making, sieve making, spoon making, vessel making, toothpick making, wickerwork, hand joinery, woodturning, tool making, souvenir making, painting and composing of items. (The painted, composed items of souvenir making branch can only be items of the basic Ribnica woodenware branches.)
A special commission decided that the geographic indication can be given to items that suit the criteria of area, material, cultural heritage, quality and technological process.
