I come from Velike Lašče and I am the second successor of the family tradition in producing wooden cooking spoons. This process has been developed for more than 40 years. The beginnings were very hard as there were no suitable machines and every spoon had to go through more than ten manual phases before it was finished. Besides, we mustn’t forget that manual work used to be much more appreciated and better paid … Nowadays, we help ourselves with machines that shorten and facilitate particular phases. The progress of industry and the growing demand have also helped. The competition from the East is very strong and most of all low-quality. Traditional manufacturers are frequently run over by their prices.
We make cooking spoons of all shapes and sizes mostly of domestic beech wood. For us, making wooden spoons means preserving tradition of woodworking and an extra income. But above all things, we do this work with heart.
